Sensitive Skin While Prego?

I have had the absolute best pregnancy up until now. At 17 weeks along, last week, I developed this weird itchy rash after wearing sterling silver earrings (that I wore pre-pregnancy). I've had reactions to metal on my ears before, but nothing like this. It felt like my ears were on fire. What's worse is that the over the course of this past week, this annoying rash spread to my cheeks, then to my neck, down to my chest and now it's on my belly and the tops of my hands. I went to the dermatologist, and she said it sounds like being pregnant made my skin extra sensitive, and that's why it reacted this way. Have any of you had experience with sensitive skin or rashes? Ugh.

Post a CommentYes!! I'm 17 weeks right now and I started to get bumps over my body at 15 1/2 weeks. They seem like bug bites in patches and itch like crazy! I had just started using a new bath wash and lotion from Bath and Body Works- so I'm thinking that's what's causing my skin to break out in these itchy bumps. I haven't used the products for a couple of days and I'm not itching so much anymore. Unfortunately I itch the worst at night while in bed which makes it very difficult to get to sleep.
I've always had sensitive skin and when pregant it got worse, and now I'm stuck with really bad ecxema on my hands and it comes and goes in patches elsewhere. I've found this wonderful little company that makes great all natural products for baby, mama, dad, the family and the dog, and their stuff has made a huge difference. While the steroid creams are still needed for the major outbreaks, their "ouch balm" has been wonderful for the times in between and calming the itching. Really a company worth checking out. It's called allthingsjill
Yes! I'm 39 weeks pregnant and my skin has been awful the entire pregnancy! The worst for me has been the eczema on my hands, which now flares up any time I eat something I'm sensitive to, or even walk into someone's house who has a cat. I've also become super prone to acne, and my back has never ever looked like it does right now. My chest and face have also been breaking out constantly. I"m so excited to have my normal skin back! Its always been sensitive, but not like this!
My skin gets super itchy and dry but no rashes.
I have psoriasis, and because of the immune system changes that go on during pregnancy it goes absolutely INSANE. It is really really out of control during pregnancy, and I cannot really use any creams or do anything for it. On top of that, I couldn't use the lights or go out in the sun during either of my pregnancies becuase i was pregnant in late fall/winter/early spring and its cold!
I had horrible itching as well for a couple of months, and some splotches for a bit. It was horrible! I stopped using my scented lotions and perfurmes and body wahes...and then invested in some all natural almond oil, some oatmeal packs for cool baths, and some all natural calendula cream...it was better than applying cortizone cream and my skin was certainly hydrated. If it starts to wake you up from a deep sleep or you scratch until you bleed...that can be a sign of something more complicated.
You could have PUPPP - it's like a pregnancy rash or hives. My friend had it when she was pregnant and the doctor gave her some cortisone cream that really helped her.
I have the MOST super sensitive skin and I used to try all products, and have bad reactions. Red skin, horrible! It turns out it was all the chemicals in the skin products that my skin was reacting to.
I have been using Made from Earth product for over 10 years for everything from a night cream to a lip balm to and um...well let's just say you can put it anywhere on your body and it pretty much heals anything.
Maybe its genetics but i am 44 and have no wrinkles. i have also put this stuff right on a pimple and it helped it heal. I do not travel without it. It is the best healing and multipurpose skincare solutions i know of.
